More Canadian companies are outsourcing business processes

December 7th, 2006

The Ottawa Business journal published an article that more Canadian companies are outsourcing business processes and not just information technology projects.

As more companies start to realize the value of outsourcing other business activities other than outsourcing the IT work this trend will probably accelarate and catch up to US levels.

The companies not only get the advantages of utilizing services that are not core to their business, but they also get the expertise from the outsourcing company who has been doing the same or similar service for other companies. This can tremendously benefit the businesses in terms of operational efficiency and quickness.

Outsourcing good for economy

November 9th, 2006

Steve Ballmer in a lecture speech in India mentioned that outsourcing is good for the U.S. economy and is here to stay.

He also notes that immigration hurdles cause a problem in finding the right talent in the U.S. Also that a third of engineering graduates in the world are from India and that is a pool that had to be tapped.

Coming from a software giant obviously this has implications on how outsourcing is perceived among the top companies and how it can benefit the economy.

How do outsourcing help companies, advantages and disadvantages.

November 6th, 2006

Can businesses perform well without outsourcing?

Outsourcing can also be called as sub-contracting. Whether the business sends a part of their work to another company down the street or across the ocean it is still outsourcing.

Advantage

A business can attempt to do all the tasks of running a business on its own. Some of the day to day operational tasks that a business have to do is accounting, HR, repetitive less income generating tasks. Companies can decide to use other companies or “outsource” such tasks to other companies who do this on a daily basis.

This way the businesses get the advantage of using a company that has the domain expertise and can do it more efficiently then they can do it on their own. Other reasons could be for cost savings. Cost savings could be in the range of 50% along with quality improvements which could be a real benefit for going offshore.

Especially in the manufacturing area staff with the requisite knowledge might be hard to find. In these cases offshore outsourcing could be the only option.

Disadvantage

In certain industries the company would decide to not to outsource any of their tasks due to government or legal contracts. Some don’t want to outsource for fear of losing their intellectual property or for quality control reason.

So outsourcing solely depends on the business situation the company is and what they want to do.

Data Entry for Meta Data?

November 3rd, 2006

Meta Data is like a table of contents for a specific piece of information. Metadata tells us about the piece of information that is published. With the vast amount of information that is currently available at the Internet this metadata becomes even more important to search and find the relavant content.

Our data entry services provide indexing of digitized information so that a piece of information about the content is indexed so that it is easier to find the content when searching for it.

An example of such a use case would be to index legal documents based on who sent the information what is in the paper such as an email, financial statement etc. By indexing this information the lawyers can find the specific piece of paper they need when they are preparing for a case in the court.
